Ag 200
 

Hi~!

Canadian in Bangkok thinking of flying to Oz to buy a AG 200. Any ideas on resistration/insurance proceadure for non residents? I notice the exchange is quite in my favour at the moment with us dollars. I was thinking of going up to the Phillipines from Oz with it....Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

As an ex-farmer of many years, with lots of experience with ag bikes, don't write off the Suzuki DF200 Trojan or any other ag bike. I have long thought all the ag bikes would make great robust tourers, and I know that they are are very reliable. Farmers get together and talk, over the boundry fence, and in town, and any bikes that wasn't up to the job would very quickly get a bad name. Ag bikes get used like no other bikes, except maybe RTW bikes, every day and in all sorts weather, and terrain. It's not unusual for an ag bike to be used seven days a week, and for hours every day. I think it's a great idea. Good luck and let us know how your trip goes.

For Au not so good IMO (l o n g roads) but for short-range congested places (like Indo, SE Asia, Phillipines, etc) they should be OK if you are light. And for sure you will get tyres and other stuff easily as it will be the size of bike that most locals ride.

Buying a bike is no problem for non residents, just pay the money. The only minor problem can be an address for for your registration - but can be overcome by using friends or even the hotel/hostel you are staying at for a few days. If you buy new from a dealer they will do the lot for you - registration, insurance, etc.

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/home.../licensingrego gives info about Queensland, there can be minor differences between states.

All states have compulsory third party injury insurance as part of the registration process. Bike insurance for property damage is something that has to be sorted out with a local insurer - check the motorcycle press or yellow pages directory.
