There are some lovely unsealed backroads between QLD and VIC which are suitable for big adventure bikes like yours. These can be used to join up some of the classic sealed roads already mentioned. How much dirt would you like to build into this ride ?

Also, I concur with others who have suggested Western NSW & QLD are probably best avoided. You can ride out there any time of year, but it's not pleasant during summer. After a few days of it, you will have certainly tested your resilience to heat but you'll be wishing you had stayed East. Much nicer to travel South along the Great Dividing Range at that time of year.

Hi Whitey, damn sure don't want to end up with a clean GS:eek3: ... I was thinking the same that there must be some great unsealed routes without having to go too far west. I would prefer to do as much dirt as possible and would appreciate your recommendations :thumbup1:

I have come to my senses regarding riding the far west in summer on my own, too dangerous and too hot!! Although,my timing has changed as I'll be working until March now, so I'll probably head off to Vic some time in late April... the far west is looking better ?c?

A run down the Great Dividing Range is also nice at that time of year.

I guess it comes down to what you'd prefer to see, and how much time you have. Do you intend to ride back from VIC to QLD also ? If so, you could do an Outback/GDR loop. I'll be happy to offer some suggestions if you can be a bit more specific about your goals and time restrictions. Oz is a big place with lots of possibilities for the offroad rider. :mchappy:

raised in nsw mid coast .I've traveled most roads over the years.
Some suggestions .
Brisbane/samford/dayboro/woodford/kilcoy/nanango/kingaroy/murgon/goomeri/tansey/ban ban springs/gayndah/mundubbera/eidsvold/monto/biloela/duringa/dingo(blackdown table land national park is not to be missed)/blackwater/emerald(since your coming through town give me a call i'll put you up)(heres a bit of local knowledge)anakie/rubyvale/copperfield/clermont/coppabella/nebo/eton/eungella/

Ask about an area you are interested i'll try to fill you in on whats worth a look.

Hi, Depends what you like, mountains and greenery are great. So are wide open spaces. The west is hot, common sence and preparation required.
Wherever call at Information centres as you go. I carry a "SPOT" locator when in western NSW and central W Aus.

Hell Yeah, actually glad to miss all of summer! Heading back to Oz tomorrow for the weekend and jumping on the bike again...I'll be up Blackbutt way (QLD) so shouldn't be too hot there..anyways I don't care cos I'm just itching to jump on it a again...it's still only got 225km on the clock....
