Altberg type bike/walking boot made in Aus?

Altberg Bootmakers - Richmond, North Yorkshire

Does anyone know if something similar to these are made in Australia? They're a bike boot but also double up as a walking boot to save carrying two pairs on your travels.

The simple answer is nope.. I look for years to find a good custom bike/walking boot company in Aus, but could not find anything. I can say that once i came to the UK and got a pair of altbergs.. i dont think i could wear anything else...

Mike,
Not sure about made in Austrailia,

See if you can get Lowa Boots, I use a Combat GTX.

Failing that see what the milatary are using, ex army stores and supplies.

On a long trip I like a boot that is more versitile than a bike boot, the combat boot has a good venting system.

I agree with Steve about modern Army boots. They're gor-tex lined and really tough. I currently wear some lace up Altbergs but will try some combat boots next. Check out these UK sites and try to find a supplier in Oz.

yep we shopped til we dropped, and ended up with lace-up blundstones for my pillion. sort of ok but really not the goods. got altberg myself and they are standing up v well to rigours of travel. will snd to aust and not badly priced but give them plenty of lead time.
imho steer clear of goretex.
cheers,
andy.

Information.

I take an 8 1/2 EEE fitting here.

The 81/2 size in Altberg is good for me - no EEE .. but

the 'desert' type boot fitted straight up .. no resizing reqired. (Borego - desert clasic)

The leather full length motorcycle boot would not fit - requires 'stretching' to fit .. I could not get my ankle to go around the corner... (clubman or conential tourer models)

So if your going with the non leather upper I'd say you'd be ok for fit - just order over the web or fax and wait for the required manufacting time (3 ? months) - they will post it out to you . For the ones at the top (Hogg all weather) - they look to have laces most of the way down so should be ok for fitting.

If not laced down pass the ankles then you'd need a fitting season or two.

That was my experience when I visited. Best to ask them - they are resonably responsive.

------------------- I've the bmw savan/ rebranded from ? .. they are good .. waterproof (as tested by submersion in a creek over teh top of the boot .. took 3 or 4 days to dry out the insides) .. gortex.

We also couldn't find a tall bike/walking boot before we left Oz on our trip but while we were on Vancouver Island we bought these boots from Viberg

workboot.com & Viberg handcrafted leather boots home page

They will take a long time to soften up but they are good protection on the bike and comfortable to walk around in.
