Where to start in South America

We have just spent 12 months riding a motorbike around South America and currently in Rio. We have decided that with the wife now expecting we need to add a couple of extra wheels to the journey.
We feel that althought we have well and truely seen the west coast and up to Rio in the east, there is still more to see. HOWEVER, now our trip is more at the mercy of where we can buy the vehicle to carry on. We have every intention of going around the world so North America is on the places we planned to travel.
Question is, where should be go for the vehicle? Should be head to the states and loop down through Central America and back up, or is there a place that could be recommended here in SA to buy a vehicle? Of course there is the cost of shipping vs buy and sell.
Just looking to tap into the collective wiisdom.....

Cheers

Panama

Hmmm - Thinking out loud here.... If you've already completed SA, you can find some good Toyota's in Central. Panama would be a good place to look, not have to pay any shipping and start driving North. Also the cheapest place in the Americas to import cheaper parts, etc from the States, if needed.

I could also be swayed to sell my 1HD-T 80 pop-top, as we're preparing to ship home from Ecuador. Good luck!
