uk to india via iran or central asia ??

Hi, We are planning a year out to travel, this route at a leisurly pace and wondered what the prose and cons would be.

So should we head thru europe iran pak etc or go over the top thru central asia.

The big question mark has got to be china or afgahnisstan i know the cost involved for china but i dont want to pay a higher price in afghanistan if you get my drift. Or is afghanistan a little more stable now after the elections???

Please but your ten penneth in im all ears
Cheers guys

no idea! but try looking a websites that cover the silk road route as these cover the areas you are looking at and will probably have current up to date info. Also look at the more area specific forums on this site for info on the countries you are interested in.

hope that points you in the right direction

No personal experience but everyone I've met who's travelled in or through Iran tells the most wonderful stories of hospitality.
Very inspired to give it a try.
You could have a look at http://www.xor.org.uk/silkroute/index.html
and their french equivalent http://www.camping-car.org/
These guys have quite a lot of vehicle dependant experience in that vague direction.
Happy hunting

Have a look in the north asia pages, lots of overland either way.last year two landrovers went across Burma/Myanmar to Thailand after months of waiting in India for visas. Otherwise its just a visa thing. Iran and the Stans are great, you dont have to cross Afghanistan to get from Iran to Pakistan, but the roads up north in Pak may be damaged from the earthquake. KKH is incredible.
