Toilet Tents
 

We in the 4WD community have the luxury (space) of being able to take a toilet tent with us for all our number 1's, 2's and general changing.

Is it worth taking one when travelling? or too much hassle?

How do other travellers get by with / without one?

I know what you mean, I had a Merc 207D coachbuilt, in the early 90's I went to Syria and Jordan with it and also lived in it in th UK. It had the benefit of built-in shower and toilet(porta potti) I now use a semi hi-top Ford Transit for UK and France, Spain and Isle of Man trips, and carry a porta potti, I find it much better than finding bushes etc:eek3:. being male I only use it for No2's!.
So if you have the room, then by all means take one and don't forget the soft bog roll!, I am sure yours and my posts here will be considered 'not hardcore' but why not have a bit of comfort and 'luxury'.

When I used to do proper camping (non-site), I just used to find a suitable rock/dune/bust/object to hide behind! Being male, that was only necessary for no2's!

On sites it is easy to use their toilets.

Personally I would not bother. Personally I find these type items more hassle that they are worth.

As for showering, if you are in the wild the only person that will be doing wildlife watch will be you. :eek3: If you are worried shower in trunks.:thumbdown: Personally I like showering in the wild!!! :thumbup1:

We found it a total waste of time and space. We just finished 19 months on the road and probably used it twice...

Behind a bush gives you just as much privacy...:rolleyes2:

On a bus from Srinagar (Kashmir) to Leh in 1979, at least 50% of us had a serious case of Delhi Belly, after about the tenth stop the driver insisted that we just poke our rear ends out of the door whilst he continued his driving. When you gotta go, you gotta go!

The other 50% took great joy in taking photos.

I hope the camera operator was upwind!

we used one of these for a month long trip in the Australian outback. It takes 20 seconds to put up and about 2 minute to take down. When you get used to it, it folds flat into a circle then into its own bag.
The wife loved it, used each night for toilet,change,shower room or just extra storage area. We where in a car and camping so the extra room was good. You will get the odd look from the hardcore campers but hey, who cares.

I guess if you've got a porta-potti to go with it, it'd be OK. If you want the lighter alternative then you can take a leaf out of Josie Dew's (the cyclist) book and use a poncho-loo. Just sling it over your head and squat. Admittedly you look a bit odd on a sunny day, but if you want to keep your performance to yourself, it works just fine.
