Carnet and shipping agents??

Hi!

Trying to save myself a phone call back to the UK so does anyone know if it's just the Carnet that has to be back in the UK after a year or the car as well? The car will be en-route via a container and stamped out of Oz, am hoping that will do as I don't want to re-new it.

Oh and any ideas for a shipping agent in the UK???

Thanks for any help

Simon

hi
its just the carnet that must return to the uk after a year, the car moves on, but make sure you have a valid carnet for when it arrives eg the next port of call

Carnet Extn

It's only the Carnet that goes back.

If it has already been stamped out of Oz and arriving in UK then it should not need an extension but it may be worth a quick email to your issuing office just to confirm this. They will issue a time extn to the Carnet at very little cost if this is required.

Hi,
I thought the vehicle had to be physically back in the issuing country before the carnet bond would be released???

Although....after re-reading on the RAC site, it look's like i thought wrong!
I read somewhere here of someone having major trouble and needing to bring a vehicle back to the uk, but i guess they can't have been stamped out properly from the last country that required the carnet.

I have learned that if you have established a good communication line with the person who is responsable for issuing the Carnets [the are not issued that much] and you ask about the procedures and lay on the table your problems honestly, then you can go a long way.

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

It is only the carnet. The carnet is only required by some countries, so long as it is stamped in and out of each country that required the carnet, it is complete and can be returned to the organisation which created it for cancellation and refund of the bail bond (assuming you paid your own bond and did not take the insurance option) I have just done this in Qatar, but the bike is in France. I had to be quite clear with the official that the carnet is only about temporary import and export from specified countries and is not concerned with where the vehicle ends up.

getting stamped back into europe

when you get back you have to get your carnet stamped in the a european country to say that you have brought it back with you.
if i remember rightly there is a page at the back of the carnet for this purpose, we got it stamped in germany on our way back and they understood all about it. poland didnt have a scoobie. you will not get your bond or insurance back until this is done, so if shipping back to blighty you will have to do this in the docks at customs.
hope this helps/

Hi all

Thanks for all the replies, so just to clear things up the carnet nor the car has to be back in within the year. The RAC say as long as the car has been stamped out of what ever country within the year thats all the they want. The Carnet must stay with the car and be present when the car gets checked back it to the home country.

The cars back in Nov so if its any different will update.

happy travels

Simon
