Shipping a Disco Far Eastern Russia > UK/Europe
 

Hi There - anyone have any advice/links in regard to shipping a car from Far East Russia (i.e. Vladivostok) to UK/Europe?

Planning a trip from UK to Vladivostock in a LR Disco in May next year and looking for options of getting the vehicle back without driving it!!

Any ideas, rough costs, links to companies that could help me please? :cool4:

Thanks John - pity you're not in Europe then! :cool4: We're not essentially looking to get the vehicle back - we're happy to donate it to anyone who can deal with the bearocracy!! :(

I saw a book recently about a trip in the opposite direction. It had some details about a transport connection with a land-Rover. The book was called "Russian Documents--Mongolian Dust". Don't know where you'de get it. Google it would be the best.

p.s. it may actually be cheaper to do it from Vladivostok to the UK.. e.g. ship the car and drive back.. we found some big differences in the prices. well worth checking out.

Getting the disco back
 

You could take the ferry from Vlad to South Korea and then put the disco on the Ro-Ro ferry that runs from there to Southampton.

I'm also planning a trip to Russia next year (2010), specifically to do the Road of
Bones. Will spend some time in Mongolia. I'm driving a Land Rover Defender 110, at the moment it's just me in the truck. Would like to do the ROB together with another truck, also equiped with a winch. When will you be going? At the moment I'm undecided if to ship to Canada, or return to Europe.

Zarbrino south of Vlad is best
 

Last year we entered Russia from S Korea using the Dung Chun Ferry, it docks in both Vlad and Zarbrino.

From other accounts we chose to enter via Zarbrino as it is quiet and few problems with Russia Customs. We did take all day to pass Customs
and paid $US150 duty, but others going through Vlad took many days. It is likely Vlad is a similar problem going out of Russia.

The ferry is about 18 hours to Sokcho.

This advice only applies to vehicles as S Korea has a problem with motorcycles apparently.

The main port of S Korea is Pusan on the southern end of the peninsular. From Pusan home I would choose to put the vehicle in a shipping container from there. RORO have theft issues, if not on board on the dock before you pick up.

just to confirm what others are saying. . . . . . . your best option in or out of Russia is via South Korea. It avoids the container port at Vladivostok which is notorious for being both time consuming, corrupt and costly. The ferry in or out at the tiny village of Zarubino is an easy option VERY easy. Once in Korea I suggest using a very helpful lady called Wendy Choi she works for the shiiping company known as aerokorea. can be contacted via : aerokorea AT unitel.co.kr costs : Our truck cost $450 and each passenger was $245 so it was nearly $1000 to get to Korea. BUT the container cost was significantly cheaper from there, as in $4,000 instead of $9,000 to get to USA. Phil.
