Shipping 4WD to Tanzania
 

Hi all. I'm looking at shipping a vehicle to from the UK to Tanzania next summer. I've received two quotes from two shipping companies, both exactly the same - £790 (one way). But they have not been able to give me any information on what other "fees" may be payable at the Tanzanian end in order to get my car out of the port. Does anybody have any experience of this, or able to give me any information on any port fees etc that may apply? The car will be travelling under a carnet de passage, so import duty shouldn't be an issue.

Not sure of the answer, but it does need to be figured out. I've heard of figures matching the shipping price to get some stuff out of some ports. (Montevideo in Uruguay)

Ask over on the shipping section, some of the bike guys may have shipped to there.

Don't know exactly what is covered by your quote but you usually end up with things like cost for a customs agent (you can normally do it yourself but these people tend to know everyone so its a lot smoother. Each time I've used one. customs haven't bothered to come out and inspect, they have just taken the agent's word). Assuming you are using a container, it needs delivering somewhere even if its in the port area and that can have a cost. Can't think of anything else but its a while since I've shipped my truck.
