Safe storage in Denmark & Iceland
This trip is still in it's infancy but I would love to try and spend a few weeks in Iceland with my own vehicle in 2014. so there's still plenty of time for planning.
The key issue I can see is the sheer time it takes to get there: Ferry/Drive to Esjberg, 1-2 days Ferry from Hirtshals to iceland, 2-3 days and then the monumental return via the Faroe Islands, 5-6 days My wife and I are limited to 'normal' holidays i.e. 2-3 weeks and this really restricts the time we can spend 'in country'. I have, therefore, hit upon a cunning plan and wondered if I could do the journey in stages e.g.: - Weekend 1 travel to Denmark and leave the car somewhere and fly home. - Long weekend 2, fly to Denmark, pick up the car and catch ferry to Iceland, leave the car and fly home. - Main trip, both fly to Iceland drive around for 2 weeks and then catch ferry home via the faroes(total 3 weeks). I know this is adding a lot of cost and may not be feasable but I just wanted to explore the options. Does anyone know where/if you can leave your vehicle, securely, in Denmark and Iceland? Bearing in mind that there could be a long period (weeks/months) between dropping in off and returning. The other option is shipping the vehicle independantly or hiring a driver to get it there for us. It's a LR Discovery. Does anyone have any ideas on the cost of these options or any other ideas? Thanks Ralph

Shipping to Iceland
Hi Ralph,
If you're on a limited timescale, best bet is to ship the vehicle and then fly in. Samskip (www dot samskip dot com) can ship your vehicle from the UK (Immingham) direct to Iceland. UK office is 01469 567003. Happy trails, Jojo
