wanted: experienced overland truck and driver for 100 day expediton.

We are currently in pre production for a 100 day trip from St Louis, Senegal to the Red Sea, Egypt (via Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Libya, Egypt)

We will be following and documenting 3 guys running 2 marathons a day in their attempt to be the first guys to do this. (I am awar that a french guy ran dakar to cairo... however he stayed out of the desert until Niamey then headed pretty much due north)

Found this Forum through Chris Scotts book, fantastic resource. The support vehicles for this trip are all desert equipped landcruisers with experienced drivers.

However we are now considering a larger support truck to carry heavy equipment. What I'm now looking into is finding the right truck and driver. Anyone who knows of an appropriate truck and driver please get in touch.

Cool Hm?

We are shortly taking delivery of our 6x6 hooklift, capable of carrying a standard 20' ISO. The ISO we'll have will be an office unit (probably with some cooking set-up). It's use is for supporting rallies (such as the Touareg Trail - 26 2CVs Brussels-Benin) and our Artic Rally next year.v The Tractor unit is Mercedes Actros 3340, with semi-sleeper cab (ie 4 pax if necessary). The idea is also that you can of course convert your own ISO in any way you want, and use that. It is less than 2 mins to put container on ground or pick it up - so can be done very easily for every night stop. Truck comes with Driver/mechanic, two if you wish.

If this might be of interest to your project, please get in touch.

One of our other services is consultancy with regard to your sort of event, perhaps that is of interest as well? Ie your planned Niger-Libya is going to be impossible without some very heavy-hitting support at high levels.

Please see www.prepare2go.com for more information, and then contact us directly if appropriate.

Er, this is clearly a plug for our commercial services, I hope that it's not out of place on this BB? Chris, let me know if so!

Sam.

Sam, clearly a plug - but also a fair response to a question asked - and thanks for the concern and question! No worries

BTW - Chris is the Moderator for the Sahara Forum only.

problem solved ?

put up on ebay today 14th sept is an ad for fully kitted truck, currently parked in Ghana.
I know this vehicle having been passenger on it ! The Australian guy whose business it was had to go back home unexpectedly. I think for personal reasons he now has to sell truck but he may well be interested in the driving for you option.
He is well experienced in this type of travel and an excellent mechanic.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
