Out of date carnet

Hey Guys,

I was just wondering of any one else has had a similar problem?

We have a vehicle in Ecuador, South America that has an out of date Carnet but still has UK plates. We are now trying to ship this vehicle out of Ecuador but are having problems with customs and documentation as it has never been imported here...?

Could anyone shed any light on this matter?

Cheers in advance.

Joe

Was the vehicle imported into Ecuador on a carnet? If so, since carnets are usually good for only 1 year, it was your responsibility to renew the carnet before it expires with the issuer. S. America normally doesn't require carnets but I think Ecuador has been a "partial exception".
You may have big problems; get the carnet renewed, if I understand your question properly.
Your question is hard to comprehend due to some typo errors.

Hello

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the mistakes in the typing....trying to to do to many things at once!!

The vehicle is in Ecuador and has been for 3-4yrs. It has never been imported into Ecuador and is still on UK plates. We are trying to have it shipped to the US but we are having fun and games with local customs. I was wondering if anyone else had ever had any similar issues and if so what did they do??

Thanks again

Joe

think the best option is to leave the country overland and re-enter Ecuador and then get the the usual 3 month permiso temporaria para turistas and then ship it out. Customs at ports are usually the most bureaucratic and better be avoided when the documents are not in order. I would take the border with Colombia (Tulcan) as that one is quite big and probably no one will notice you did not pass by customs...

This happend to me in Kenya. Firstly I got a new carnet through the AA and then I went to the head of customs in Nairobi and had the vehicle transferred to the new carnet. I originally thought it would be a horror story but it turned out OK.
