Had a look at your truck, you did a grand job! I`ve just started to convert a Bedford MJ with an office body fitted to it. The plan is to take an overland trip in a few years (when the kids are just a bit older) and at the rate i work three years might not be enough ! Any way hope you get the truck sold, cheers....marty.
ps. did you travel any of the desert pistes of Morocco ? if so tell me more as thats our first destination.

You really did a marvellous job, it must be strange to have to part with it.
My Iveco will be going onto the market next year because of a growing family and I'm already upset about it. (Over the moon with the reason, but still..)

What's your next project? (I know you have one, we all do)

I only got to go down some of the more normal roads in Morocco as i was in convoy with some German lads until i had to rush back to the UK, Dad spent two weeks in intensive care. but did do a bit in the deep sand and would highly recommend and old Bedford as it had no probs.
If you want to go in convoy there is always a few big trucks parked up Dec Jan time, 5 kms north west of Tarifa at the beach. and they always know the cheapest places to get ferry tickets.

at the moment i have no more plans for building another as i have had to come home to look after my folks, there old and seen determined to get value for money from the health service. so stuck in the UK for a bit

Just to say the truck has now sold,

hey rob, a couple of quick questions for you about your (ex) truck.

I pressume the bedfords rely on chassis twist for off-roading and so how did you deal with eliminating the torsion in the box body? did you use rubber mountings like rob gray on his ACCO?

The other question was regarding engine access. I'm soon to go about purchasing a suitable 4x4 truck for a conversion but I wanted to put a cantilevered bed area over the cab. Obviously this will only work if the cab is not a tilt forward design so what is the case with the bedford.

I first mounted the front two body mounts with long bolts and springs to tension the body on to the chassis, as the cab is separate from the body, but after a few tests including jacking one front wheel up by 400mm the body showed little movement? but the cab to body moved 50mm in twist so its just straight mounted now, and even going up ruff mountain tracks i haven't had any probs.

The cab on a Bedford is rigged mounted, not tilt, but as mentioned above there is a lot of twist between the body and cab. so you do need a break in the body line, but the old electricity trucks were split in the middle as the cab was part of the front body and kitchen unit.

rob, I can't PM yet as apparently I need 15 posts. Thanks very much for your help, I'm sure I'll contact you though as my design gets more developed. I'm no idiot (I have an engineering masters), but no amount of knowledge can replicate trial and error experience and by what you've said it seems that you were fairly rigorous with your design.

Do you have any more specific measurements about the chassis twist. Did you get a feel for the maximum angle difference between the cab end of the chassis rails and the rear end?

I was planning to truss the cantilever over the cab and leave around 150mm vertical gap between the top of the cab and the bed area. Do you think this is enough to accomodate twist between the cab and the front of the box and the small flexibility in the trussed section? Finally at the back of the body did you mount in just 1 place? and if so did you use a rigid bolt mounting as you did at the front or a rubber mount?

Bert, that is a real mean machine you created... like martyboy I am acquiring a Bedford MJ but without the office body unless I can find one, and want to fit out as a camper for Africa. I think I've got about two years for the project. But if I'd seen your truck for sale, I'd have been sorely tempted to rob a bank and come see you!

I've read and studied all the details you put in the advert, but would you be prepared to share technical details of the work you did? Otherwise I feel that I'm re-inventing the wheel to some extent!
