Dubai tips?

Hi,
We're going to be in Dubai for a week from 8th Aug. Just wondering if anyone can point us in the direction of a good 4wd rental place and/or fancies a trip out into the desert - or just a .

Any ideas?
Cheers,
Nick.

Nick post the same question on this forum, its UAE based, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Put a message out for Streaky, Sharky, Tim Ansell or Desert Dog, they are the blokes you were talking to on Sat night who live out there.

Are you going to the CTOC Auction in Aug.

For an excellent and demanding self-drive desert safari I would recommend www.offroademirates.com. The Scot who runs it is fairly rough and ready but is very capable and knows the area (UAE) extremely well. You will need to have driven in the desert beforehand though or else have someone in the car who has and can give you some pointers!

The usual deal is that you rent a standard 4x4 from a local rental outfit (V6 or V8 petrol Land Cruiser - he will recommend the company) and he brings the necessary kit.

I did a Liwa expedition with him and the dune driving is frankly mind-blowing and on a par with the Ubari in Libya or Sossus Vlei in Namibia! You'll also see gazelle out there which makes a change from the Sahara.

The UAE is not cheap and the the above will cost you but the memory will be burned into your consciousness!

Alternatively if you want a backseat ride you can book a standard "night out in the desert" through your hotel which will normally include some exciting desert driving.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
