Driving time London - Gibraltar area

Hi guys

How many days will it take me to drive from London down to Gibraltar? I have two kids onboard, so I can't drive during the night time.

What is the approx. distance down there?

Hi,

If you go to viamichelin.com/

You can enter your leaving town and your destination and it will give you a very exact route, timing and even fuel consuption and toll costs.

It takes a couple of days to get to Tarifa if you go from uk/dover-Calais and down thru France and the centre of Spain.

It can be done in 2 days but that is probably unwise with the kids! three days is achievable. We did it in three days esilly (more like 2 1/2) in a suzuki sj, and they aren't exactly quick. Share the driving though, it's as boring as hell!! better to take a bit of time and run through the mountains in spain. much nicer and only adds 1/2 to 1 day

My parents drove down to our place in Tarifa last year, think it took them about 2 1/2 days (they didn't drive at night much either), although they were in a volvo V70 Td, not a rattly land rover like i will be!

think it was about 1500 miles. As the crow flies (from my GPS) it's 1009 miles from Tarifa to Swindon.

I concur the 2/3 day thing. 3 days is probably comfier in a landy.

I recently went down to Algeciras (nearby) from Salisbury via Dover-Calais/Paris/Northern Spain etc.

It took me three days on a motorbike and to be fair, the journey was fairly dull.
I had to get down to Algeciras to get over to Morocco, so couldn't use the back roads etc it was motorway all the way sticking to about 70 - 80mph.
I wouldn't want to do it over a shorter period and if you have plenty of stops, it shouldn't be too bad for the children over three days.

Make sure you have lots of games for them to play and are you prepared for the "are we there yet" comments every 30 minutes :-)

Have fun,
Simon

Done it several times in a 300 Tdi defender, once in 2 days, but 3 is better unless you want to be at the wheel 12 hrs+ per day.

Did Carcassone to Calais in a very long day in august...after Cadiz to the French border the previous day...

then on the return from Maroc in november, about a week ago, took a leisurely 7 days to get from Tarifa to Canterbury. Both occasions in a fully loaded TLC 80 series...

I have better memories of the leisurely trip back...
