Cheap-ish travel thru China
 

We are in the process of finalising our planned route thru China and, having read what other people have paid- we reckon we've got a deal. Click onto our diary pages- China 2 page to see the basic details.

This is a good quote from an agency that is recognised by the government of China. We know of other agents that quote less BUT it usually means having to pay the bond. Our quote has gone up recently to incorporate a 'insurance' cover thus preventing bond payment. Our route and itinery has been agreed by the Chinese government, we are simply waiting to pay once our paperwork has been authorised.
Our quote includes all tolls, chinese driving licence, our guide, his accomodation etc etc.
Hope this extra info. clears up some questions!

One of the prime differences with 4 wheels is that you can take the guide with you.
Bikers cant do that, so you have to pay for a guide, a car, a driver and all the costs associated with that.

Very true about bikers and guides, but then maybe that's a good reason to team up with four-wheelers for any Chinese part of a journey, that way the guide can go with them, money can be saved all round and hopefully you can meet up in advance to check each other out?

I have to say though that if your quote pans out it's really very interesting, £2000 for 49 days as opposed to the quote of £4500 I received from another agency, for a mere SIX DAYS!!!

Maybe so- but this is the easiest way for us to set up a page considering we did it whilst on the road and with almost no previous web page experience. If there is anyone out there that can lead us, step by step, through the process of how to upgrade our web page we would be very grateful. We have been trying to set up google world map on our site for over one month now with no success- so that gives you an idea of our technical prowess!!!:confused1: NESSIESADVENTURES

Hey there Nessies!

I can give you a hand if you want. I am not expereiced and totally self taught for this one web site, but I have got google maps on my site after a bit of work. I am probably at you end of the web site creation spectrum, so perhaps you will find it easier asking the required 'daft' questions to a fellow beginner.

Let me know what you would like to know and I will answer any question. Failing that, when I get some time (next week at the earliest) I can write a step by step guide of how I created my website.

I used Dreamweaver as a design tool, and I think my guidance would be biased towards that, although other tools may offer the same functionality, I don't know them.

Looking forward to your write up of China, and the whole guide process. I think if it goes well you should be trying to get soem commision from matey in Germany :)

Digital 'bread crumbs' of my route /track
 

I played around with Google Earth to produce my 'bread crumb' track, which I updated around 2-3 time a week. The progressive picture - always placed at the top of my blog's homepage - kept everyone back home pictorially 'in-the-picture' as to just where I was at any one time. For instance:

Hi John, just wanted to let you know -we tried to open on firefox and now see what the problem is! Can you or anyone advise if there is a way of making our page multi browser friendly without rewritting our page. We are very lucky to be in a house with electric but will be on the road again soon- so it's needs to be a fast solution for us! many thanks :helpsmilie:

I don't think you can... Was it written using MS Office? Seems to be a lot of mso calls/functions in there.

Your shineystats is in the wrong place. Suggest you include it at the bottom of the <div> that has your copyright notice in it.
That will move it to the bottom of the page instead of being behind the "Home" on your menu.

Cheers for that. We have done some work on our pages so the shineystat is off at the moment. Are thinking of making the hyperlink boxes into text links- that may help a little on the page navigation score- other than that, I reckon we've done all we can from here. When we get back to the U.K we will change the format.
