Camping gas refill East Africa route

We're leaving UK for SA via Syria, Jordan, Egypt etc in October.
I'm carrying two 2.75kg Camping Gas bottles for cooking only. I'm pretty sure that I can get refills in Turkey, but after that am not sure.
I'd be interested if anyone has tried this - is it easy or impossible?

Thanks,

Ian

We filled our own on the way to India from donor bottles make sure you have a connector which is just a tap ie you can open your bottle without a regulator. then have the same on the donor bottle. turn the donor bottle upside down and the liquid gas will run into your bottle.

I'm in Nairobi at the moment and I've seen camping gas on sale here, so I guess refills would be possible. Don't remember seeing it further south, but it could be there.

Got my camping gaz bottle refilled - the guy at Jungle junction in Nairobi took it off and bought it back full. As said before, if you can get hold of an adaptor they will fill anything for you.

What sort of adapter are you using? Can you point us to a supplier of the adapter?

we didn't bring one, but at JJ the owner takes it somewhere that has one.

We brought two cylinders with us and after the refill still have one and a half left, which will prob finish the trip for us (in Tanzania now) - we have a cooker inside the car which helps with consumption (less wind) and cook on open fires when possible, and in lots of places its just as cheap to eat out.

If I do use both cylinders I'll just pick up a local cylinder and regulator - one of those things you put loads of thought into pre-trip and then becomes a non problem in the grand scheme.

Hi agree
with the last comment, we tend to look for cooker repair a spares shops/huts as they will refill for you and have the adapters. Some states in India Kerrala for instance actually have health and saftey so I just carry it in a ruck sack others just don"t care. However beware of those individuals that fill and smoke at the same time!

have a great time Mark
