Buy LR defender 90 spare parts in morocco.
 

Hi. Me and my girlfriend are going to Morocco in a week and wonder if someone knows if it´s easy to find spare parts for our vehicle. Where is the best place to find it.

There're plenty of landrovers in marokko, so that's fine I guess.

Don't be so sure! Land Rover don't have any dealerships in North Arfica. My water pump failed in Tunisia last Christmas and I had to replace it once I reached Marseille on my return trip. Go prepared, take what you think you may need, have a good service before you go. My pump was fitted (genuine part) by LR 5 months before it failed.

Morocco is'nt europe off course, but if anywhere in North Africa there are landrovers, then it's in Morocco. Tunesia indeed is nissans and toyota's only.

OK, so I stand corrected. On that basis, that Morocco has a listed importer, I guess you can go totally unprepared and when you break down just pick up the parts that you need in any major town.

Depending on how modern your landrover is you may struggle to get parts in other Moroccan towns but they can always send parts through from Casablanca. Have driven past the dealership and its pretty sizeable.

The next furthest Northern LR dealer, is, i think, in Gibraltar.

Been to the one in Gibralter on a previous trip. Not very good, didn't seem to have much knowledge but did have the proper landrover software so I could get on their computer and track down the parts I needed. They were okay for that. Alternatively been to a LR dealer in Jerez which isn't that far from the ferry port Spain. Different trip again and needed some parts, they were pretty good, had lots of work on unlike the Gibralter operation, very helpful. From there I think its Seville which supposedly has a larger dealership again but haven't been there.

Actually there is a dealer in Algeceras but I was not too impressed. We had a major gearbox problem (as it turned out) on an ex-army LR which they failed to sort out and furthermore I had to work hard to persude them to even look at the vehicle. Too old and not fancy enough!

Not much in the way of parts for Defenders in Morocco. I called SEMIA when we were stuck in Dakhla with a blown transmission, and they told me to drive to Casa to their shop so they could look at it. I had the part number of an R380 box and everything. Had several people scouring the countryside looking for parts for me with no luck. Ended up having to get parts shipped in from the UK.

Take the regular spares with you as you'll be very lucky to find them there.

Yeah, Take a sensible amount of spares with you, and find a (local) independant LR specialist who will fly bits out to you - arrange it with them before you go get there email/fax/phone numbers.

As above, with a few notes:

- You will probably need to speak French with the dealership in Casablanca from my experience. Can anybody provide a name there who speaks English?

_ 'Sahara Overland' has a large list of mechanical parts translated into French in the back.

- Stating what 110 engine you have helps us answer your questions easier ;-)

- As you get in Western Sahara things get very difficult - nobody will send you parts as it is a disputed area. All the landies there are Santana's of Series vintage and nobody really has Defender parts.

- It's hard work sorting out the pricing. Many mechanics will try to charge you European pricing. Remember, new parts are something like 120% of the costs of parts in Europe (very rough guide - can be more).

- Labour is cheap, parts expensive. School teachers & policemen get something like 50-100 dirham per day. If a hole in the wall mechanic is trying to charge you 1500 for labour then there is some room for bargaining in a polite but firm manner. The more you say that you have no time and must get on the more you will pay as well ;-)

- All towns have a mechanical ombudsmen. Any dispute about price and ask to see him or go and find him.

- If you get stuck in or near Marrakech, then try this guy. Very honest and used by most of the well to do in Marrakech (I was introduced by a guy who did the Camel Trophy for Morocco etc)
