Budapest to Bamako rally
 

2 friends and I from Saskatchewan in Canada are planning to enter the Budapest to Bamako rally in January 2010: http://www.budapestbamako.org/en/

Has anybody done this before? We would need a cheap (4 wheeled) vehicle to buy somewhere in or around Hungary. What is easy to get around there? I know Lada's are available, but I haven't heard great things about them. Any info, tips, suggestions, or anything at all would be very much appreciated.

After the race, I'd like to stay in either Europe or Africa, depending on where I can find a job. Where and what kinds of jobs would be available for about a 2 month stretch? What would be even better is if the job involved motorcycles... but thats asking a lot!

We do the Rally this year and it was an amazing exprience!
So, try to buy the car in Germany or Holland, much cheaper and in better conditions. Look for a LWB 4x4, Toyo, LR, Nissan or a pick-up. Lada Niva is ok, but to small for 3 persons and they equipment.

Hi there,
Normally I would say Germany is the better place to buy a car, though I dont know how the new, and much higher price you get when you "crap" the car will effect the secondhand prices. Somebody told me that the German Government now give you almost 3000 euros back if you crap the car....

I will also take part in the race 2010, Team Loki will attend with a Toyota Landcruiser HJ 60.

Now that I realize I am going back to the Sahara, just thinking about it gives me chill bumps. Yea!
