Billing

So - who's off to Billing then?

We will only arrive late on the Friday and have to leave on the Sunday morning, but that will leave Saturday to let our hair down and have some fun. Meeting up with a couple of others hopefully.

Anything special happening this year?

I'm going up for the day on Friday, hoping to miss some of the weekend crowds, but the downside is hitting the weekend traffic, particularly with the school holidays starting.

If anyone is around on Friday and wants to meet up, I can be reached on 07971 540362

Last year my major purchase was an engel fridge. this year I'm looking for some spotlights. And some small bits and bobs

Billing Show vs HU meet

Hi all

I find it hard to believe the amount of you going to a large Land Rover show to spend your money when you missed a great weekend at HU meet - at least the HU meeting has people who have travelled as oppose to a Land Rover is a way of life crowd!

Having been to Billing last year, I wouldn't waste the petrol going again.

Life ain't always that simple Bec

I'm afraid life isn't necessarily that simple. I would have loved to have come, but with working abroad I can't commit to everything, and that weekend was a no go for me.

I suppose I'm happy to go anywhere where the company is good, and I happen to know the people I'm meeting will be good company. Perhaps that was your problem?

Anyhow, not really a conversation worth having. I'm off to Billling and am looking forward to it.

Thanks for the advice though !!!!!

Unfortunately I couldn't make the HU meet due to family commitments, however as a LC man through and through and running a business preparing them (shameless plug 1) am going up to Billing purely for commerciall reasons.

Having said that, for the LC crowd another alternative to consider is the next ELCO weekend (shameless plug 2 - 20th September - more news to come) - we have a very strong overlanding presence amongst the members and enjoyed great tall tales around the camp fire and hog roast at the last weekend.

Bad company.....?

You may be right Ollie as we didn't meet anyone who had actually travelled outside of the UK at the Billing show, they were more expedition driveway vehicles!

When we travelled on the bikes, and in our 4x4 we met loads of people doing the trip but since returning to the UK, the 4x4's on here have never met up (bar a few) and yet theres loads of people planning trips and I am a strong believer in people sharing their experiences so others can learn from them.

Maybe I should get a bike again........!

P.S This wasn't meant to be a useless conversation Ollie, it was to try to encourage others to get together!

Sory

Sprry bec - was a bit touchy last night.

I supopse because we've got a website I am constantly in touch with other 4x4 ers who are planning trips. In fact I don't have enough weekends to get together with them all, hence missing the HUUK.

Anyhow, I said to Chris as well, the oringal point of pointing out that HUUK is a valid alternativer is right to be made.

Cheers

Ollie

Living in the frozen north (regarded by some of you as another continent - believe me it works both ways) as I do, and working long weeks with seldom a full weekend amongst them, I often only get to one show/event per year where overlanders are present (and Ive been going to Billing for about ten years - there's always a good crowd of travellers around). That being so it makes more sense for me to go to one where a)travellers meet up for a b) I can buy routine service parts cheaply and c) overland gear is for sale... hence Billing.
