All Africa

Has anyone ever done every single capital in one tour?

Roman 19 Jul 2006 15:28

Sorry, what's the point?

Surfer 19 Jul 2006 17:43

The point is i just want to know. I am planning a trip like this soon. And i want to know what the hassles are gonna be. I have read many travelogues and none seem to have done this.

I think what Roman means is that big African cities are more likely to be regarded as the low points of overlanding trips - or just opportunities to take care of practicalities.

No idea if anyone has or hasn't done the trip you describe, but I doubt there's a trophy going for first place. The time for record-breaking attempts has probably gone.

You might need more motivation than a publicity strapline to want to visit some African capitals. At any one time there is usually at least a couple that are a bit 'tricky'. Mogadishu springs to mind, without thinking too hard!

Still, any excuse to go...

Seasons and politics...always changing.

It is completely for publicity. Believe me i want to be out of those cities asap. Just need to take a token emblem to certain people in each city. then off to see the rest of the major attractions and roads. I did east africa last year from London. so i know what to expect in major cities.. 1 stay out of Cairo...... but the rest were ok. Kampala is amazing. go back any day.

So its a business pleasure drive for 1 year. As for the record.. not into trophies and things.. to me the safety of the crew would be first.

Thanks for ur help

A far more difficult and dangerous undertaking (and perhaps more morbidly interesting for some of us) would be to cart your fanny and crew to North America and eat a meal at every McDonalds on the continent. You could capitalize on the the whole "Supersize Me" story. If you're concerned about the safety of your crew, simply don't allow them to eat there! Whatever you decide, enjoy your ride! H.

Bet $50 Canadian you couldn't do it. Re-read my message! You're after a challenge, hmm. Good luck with your trip, H.
