thanks

Hi guys,
thanks for the information, have sourced these in the u.k but on every vehicle we have seen of other overlanders in South America they seem to have a white oval with a black circle around it, dont want to stand out to much for the police to impose a fine on us for a different style of sign or are we being a bit paranoid?
hope to meet up with you at some time out there, we sail on the 23rd june.
see you

Hi Dave,

Don't worry so much about rules and regulations. Your vehicle will be allowed into Argentina, and once on the road, if a police will stop you and try to fine you for something, he will find something. Don't worry. We tell them, that the customs allowed the car into the country the way it is. Speeding, driving without lights etc is another thing. There are a whole lot of strange rules and regulations here in Argentina; one of them which forbids a spare wheel carrier on the back door of a vehicle. But the VW Fox sport, made in Brazil which comes with a wheel on the back door is imported and seen regularly here!

If you really want to comply with the rules here, you should read [article 40] law 24.449 and see that you will need:
- a fire extinguisher
- two triangular beacons
- a country sticker

I don't see anything mentioning a 80 km sign?

Good luck

why 80?

um - excuse my ignorance - why 80?

i would understand for certain ex-military trucks, but surely a defender would be allowed to go 100 in 'any' country?

why?

HI we have sold our trusty little nessie and now have a big nessie in the right colour a Mercedes Benz 911LA 4x4.
We need a speed sticker to stop police in south america from imposing a fine on us (normally quite a hefty one)

cheers :D

If all else fails, drive to your nearest signing studio, and they will print or make you a nice sticker with anything you want printed on it... :-)

Hi dave, going off topic here - interesting to see you've swapped your Mandy for a Merc 4x4 truck - seems like a great choice for your next trip. We're leaving oz for se Asia on 1 aug with our MB sprinter 4x4, we wanted something that fits in a container and is big enough to sleep 4 inside vehicle.

What year is your truck from? When are you leaving?

Cheers

Kai

Big Nessie

Hi breth.
our truck was built in 1977. 25000km on the clock and was used by the B.G.S( German police) and was a radio wagon for the Berlin wall we think.
We loved our landy and got this for more space for living inside in bad weather as we are off to South America Tuesday 23rd June from tilbury London.
we are shipping with Grimaldi and going as passengers, should be fun?

With a bit of luck we intend to sell her over there when we have finished. b
But who knows may go to central and north America and see where the road takes us.

Good luck with the trip, we would go back to Asia tomorrow if we didn't have the urge to see new sights ( oh and new smells Ha Ha)

safe travels

happy travels!!

our mog had previously spent time in central america, and has a 50mph/80kmh sign made up with uk number plate bits, so i'd assume that was found to be ok?
she also has red and white reflective stickers which were put on front and back following a police fine, despite every lorry going past while they were being repremanded didnt have any?!
