Where to get a Toyota troopie in UK?

I was wondering if it's possible to import a 78 series troopie from Australia or anywhere else. I see the 78 series has the 4.2 Td engine - that's the version I'm after. I remember reading about them not passing EU emission laws, is that relevant.

There are a few dealers in Germany who import European spec (much nicer than Africa spec with diff locks, tanks, and a good heater + hopefully not 24v) troopies; - they're bought in ex-Japan on a case by case basis.

Here's one in Hannover:

or try Tojo Zambia for RHD Af model.

A regular 78 does not have a turbo - that's the problem - (though they are available with the electronic Amazon engine in Australia. This would certainly pass emisions but is the old Tdi/Td5 quandry which may be why you want a Troopie in the first place).

Or look for one on the European sahara websites for a used one - buschtaxi.de - they are pretty sought after. I would have thought if they have a European plate you ought to get a UK plate on it - though I hear all that stuff has become harder here in the last year or two.

Overall, IMO I've found its not worth the bother - you've got to something really against an 80 in the UK for up to half the price.

Thanks Chris, I have been considering the idea of an 80 for some time, but they need immediate suspension mods do they not to carry desert type loads?

True but how much is a set of springs from Scorpion or Grand Erg?
You will save that cost on fuel in one trip + 80s are a whole lot nicer and normal to drive.
Troopies are juicy (the price of the tough but 'old-fashioned' engine) and I bet they too need hd suspension (as do most things of the crate)
