ENGEL-FRIDGE WANTED !!

Hello,

Does anyone has a good used ENGEL-FRIDGE for sale ? We want to travel to South-Africa next year and cold drinks are highly enjoyable during desert travel, don't you think so ?

P.S Do not throw me of the forum again please, I'm very thirsty.

Karel (from Belgium).

Sorry Karel, I've nothing to offer; I'm in the same situation. Because of the price of these units I'm exploring the idea of building my own using one of the Danfoss BD35 kits ( http://www.waeco.com/pages/products/mk/agg.htm ) which apears to go for around £250. Does anyone have any experience of doing this? I thought of cutting up a cheap passive coolbox and bolting it on somehow..

Hi Huey, sorry for the slow reply time. Kind of symptomatic of how things are getting mad as the transaf departure approaches.
I found on a french site a post from someone who had built his own fridge. The kits are sealed coupling; that means you don't need to call someone to charge the system once you've assembled. The main downside is the outside of the fridge. You've got a box and a compressor, now put the two in a case that is solid and not too ugly.
With the preparations timetable sliding the way it is, I'm seriously tempted to go to someone who has already gone through all the hassle of getting everything to fit and buy a complete unit. The Indel units look good, and National Luna (.com) are based in ZA and have the thickest insulation of the ones found on the net. The great advantage of doing it yourself is that you can make it any shape you want, with even more insulation if necessary.
Sorry I can't really help, yet.
cheers
Luke

thanks Luke,

you couldn't post a link to that site could you? I've got a year before intended departure so it might be a project for those cold winter nights. I'd be good hear what kind of success someone else had had before spending the money on the unit though. . . .

Cheers

Huey

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
