UN Toyota Land Cruisers

Due to our association with the UNDP and the clean water initiative we are supporting in the sahara the opportunity has arisen for our expedition to purchase new HJZ78L or HZJ105L custom fitted by Toyota Stockholding Gibralta for whats seems a very reasonable price.

It all seems a little too good to be true.... I would be interested in knowing all you guys opinions on these... are these really the perfect vehicles for the job?

you can check them out at www.toyota-gib.com/

Hi roman thanks for the reply,

It seems I will be going ahead with the HJ.

I wander if you have had any experience with the turbo kit that they supply. I seem to remember reading somewhere on this hub about aftermarket turbos being a bad idea...

the turbo kit they offer works without an intercooler and I'm not sure thats going to make a difference.

IMO for a hard desert trip yes they are, even on Toyotas and I'm surprised TGS offer it for the 1HZ-engined vehicles you've listed which have enough power to do the job without needing regular turbo-quality oil changes and all the rest. If not you can buy a good turbo VX in the UK for half the price.

The last few times i''ve been to Gib (about twice a year) there has been loads of brand new trucks parked up in a compound, right on the end of the rock by Trafalgar point. these pictures were taken last September.

nice looking trucks too, a lot of them have sand tyres, snorkels, and neat ladder steps built into the rear C pillars right at the back, they fold in flat when not in use.

me likey!!!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
