Tyres - Cooper Discoverer STTs - Big thumbs up

What can I say, just completed a 46,000 km trip from London to Cape Town and back on these tyres and suffered not a single puncture.

We also used them on our trip from Uk to India, Asia, China and home.
Met a bloke in Oz who had used BFG and Cooper - he told us that in his experience BFG had weaker side walls and that Cooper was more likely to lose chunks from tread.
We did have some small chunks come off with very rough off roading but we were still seriously impressed with our Cooper tyres and are looking to buy them again for our new motor.:thumbup1:

Cooper vs BFG

I've run BFG A/Ts for the last ten years and have been very pleased with them. Until now...

I decided to replace the last set on my Troopie after 75,000 miles. Still about 6-7mm of tread left and nice and evenly worn. The new set I put on have only done 30,000 and are now worn to the same level with chunks missing.

Are BFG using a softer compound these days?

The Coopers are quite popular in South Africa from talking to people there - I think because of price (and looks ;-). People report typical use of 60,000km.

For comparison with my Michelin XZY's: 3 years around Africa, 112,000km - 4 out of the original 6 tyres were still perfectly fine at the end of the trip. The other two were lost due to sidewall damage, one a huge slash, the other a very slow leak.

We reached capetown over the westroute, 20`500 km, and was also very happy with the cooper STT`s.

They had to fight with near 4to - and handle it well.

We had to (let) repair a tyre once, it happens during real offroad driving (no track) - and was a result of - i call it abusing :rolleyes2:
