Selling 4x4 in south Afrika?

I will drive me VW lt 4x4 truck down to south africa. WHen the price for shipping it home to Europe seems to be to high I see myself having to options:
1. Sell the truck somewhere in southern parts of Africa - is i possible to do that? any interest in LHD VW? How to handle Carnegie papers?
2. Turn it into "junk"!! Leave it at some junk yard.. How to handle the Carnegie papers? (not the best thing to do, but probably less of a sunk cost than to ship it home)

Does anyonw have any experiences in this?

Best regard
anders

Or look for a 'volunteer' to drive it back?

That could be a solution but I dont think thats possible with all the arrangements at every border with the carnegie papers..

I am not certain about this, but it might be possible to surrender your vehicle to SA Customs. Forfeiting it to the state may be a valid option for discharging the Carnet. In principle it's not that different to Customs confiscating other prohibited goods when you declare them on entry (no penalty or duties are payable if you voluntarily surrender the goods).

Anders,
Which route are you taking ? Just an Idea....
If you go South down the East side then come back up to West Africa you will sell it there with no problems at all - they always want lhd vans for Tro Tro's - the buyer pays an official to get the paperwork 'done' and you dont even have to use your Carnet there (most of West Africa) as they use the Laisser Passe system - making things much easier.
In Bamako (Mali) they would buy it up straight away.
You get to see much more of Africa - though it would take longer.... then a short flight home to Europe.
Good Luck
Grif
