Plain metal number plates in UK

Hi

I'm embarking on a tour throughout Africa and the Middle East later this year. I want to get a set of plain white pressed metal number plates with black lettering without any indication of nationality, so as to make the vehicle a little less conspicuous. Obviously these plates would not be UK legal, so would only be fitted once outside the country, but does anyone know where I can get a pair made in the UK??

Cheers

Dan

look in the back of a classic car magazine in the classifieds for a period / specialist numberplate supplier.

Metal plates are only legal on the road for old vehicles (am assuming yours isn't that old!).

UK law is now you will have to provide reg docs to have a plate made, i suspect that they will say that they can't make one for yours as wrong type.

very, very easy to get round. just say that "its for show purposes only".

i severeley doubt that you will ever get questioned about it in the UK if you just fit it though. Even then, all they will do is tell you to take it off and get a real one.

anyway, hope this helps

You can always order a set on the net - they don't check your paperwork.

Another option - get stick-on plates and attach them on top of the original plates -it'll be all legal.

Bare in mind that those used to seeing European vehicles will see your RHD and instantly equate you with being from the UK.

No matter how many times I said "I'm from New Zealand" I was always from the UK ;-)

Alternatively if you're travelling through France, these can be had relatively easily from a lot of the larger supermarkets, or places like Feu Vert, Roady, Automarché etc.

I've had french style (even old white on black style) plates made up for English registrations before, it tends to help if the car is parked outside.
