A splash of two stroke oil for the DERV?

I've been reading about adding two stroke oil to diesel fuel every time a vehicle is re-fuelled, at a ratio of about 200:1. Say 0.3 litre oil to a 70L tank.
There is a large thread about this here:-

Freel2.com - View topic - 2-stroke oil and diesel

I offer this up for discussion: pros and cons for new engines, old engines, etc etc or just as information for anyone like me who wants to know what to do if you fancy it for your diesel engine.
(back in the days, I was well used to adding 2T oil to my stroker moped i.e. mixing oil and petrol, but I haven't done this particular procedure - there again, I don't own a DERV at present).

Note, there are numerous benefits claimed for this including better mileage.

Apparently true regarding lubrication, and therefore longevity. Not worthwhile for economy, but there's a strong argument for acetone in that regard.

It's a bit complex concerning the economy since there is supposed to be better fuel economy also.

Acetone: I haven't heard of that as an additive. What amount is to be added and is that also for the lubrication effects, or is there another reason?

Be very careful if its a 'common rail' diesel, I have heard about, but not used acetone, as somewhere I read that it 'attacks' diesel injector pump seals, which is obviously a bad move.

Modern diesel engines are now so complex that some manufacturers are not even recommending bio fuels, but there are so many contrasting interweb discussions on the subject. Try one make forums for positive and horror stories.

I am trying it!

I have decided to try it in my Iveco daily 4x4. I have read the forum posts and it sounded good. to this end I have just filled up with 70 litres and put in about 250 to 300 ml, I am not sure exactly because it was dark! I thought it made the engine instantly quieter but it could all be in the mind I suppose......

Two years ago I was advised by a local Bosch service owner (he's around 70) to pour "half a litre of 2-stroke oil" into each tank of my 2,0 HDi common rail Peugeot when taking some old Deutz injectors for overhaul. "Once you'll have to refurbish the common rail injectors, it won't be that cheap," he added.

Walkabout: the other forum suggests the 1:200 ratio. Yes, it's mainly for lubrication purposes since new eurodiesel fuel is dryer and thus looks like failing to lubricate the pump and the injectors as it should. If you only read the first 4 pages of that thread you'll get a quite reasonable insight into it.
