Sam,

There is a "127/130 and LR special Vehicles Landy club" - they had a small club stand at a landy show that I saw.

If they have a website they might know of a few for sale, have classifieds etc etc

Hi Toby and Darrin,

The pink thing is perfect, but I need greater load capacity (size rather that weight) and two vehicles, for a trip next year.

Darrin, I'll try and track down this club - thanks for the pointer...

Sam.

What about an ex-mil ambulance, they have a high C of G, but would be able to be kitted out as the ultimate overlander.

Hi Sam,

I would certainly recommend an ex mod 127 ambulance as a good expedition work horse if that’s the sort of thing your looking for. Lots of space in the back for carrying gear or turning into a camper + a huge roof rack – also comes with heavy duty springs, split charge batts and Erspacher (?) heater as standard. They do have a high C of G which makes traversing slopes a bit scary at times compared to a 90 or 110 but I can think of few vehicles in its class which can drag 3.5 tons of junk over dunes with out flinching (well – too much!) – guess that’s down to the V8 though. All parts are standard 12v 110 / V8.

Have a look at the look at the site below for bit more info and a list of ex-mod disposal places in the links section to go and have a look / test drive if your interested. Expect to pay 4k to 5k + vat for say 1988/9 with 10k/20k on the clock. L/H drive are cheaper again.

If you want any more info about them, send me a mail and I’ll gladly try and answer your questions. There is an “Ex-military Land Rovers” club with at least one member who has a 127 and a small mailing list of 127 ambulance owners who I could put you in touch with as well.

Cheers

Hugh

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a crew-cab, or pick-up with flat-bed rear. So, either ex-electricity (etc.) or 127 Rapier style. I need the open space on the back for m-bikes.

I'll check out those links, thanks.

Sam.

Withams are pretty good. They are based off the A1 south of Grantham. They have loads of ex army vehicles. Got a Sankey trailer from them, there was a choice of about 50. Met others who had bought a 101 ambulance off them. They have a good selection, they aren't to fussed about a big discount, primarily because their main business seems to be bulk sales to third world countries but they were pretty helpful and the prices seem alright.

Er, his server reckons my mail is spam (particularly astute, some might say!!).

Could you let him know that I'd like to know how much he is after...

Cheers,
Sam.
