if the vehicle has not been used regularly (or the heater hasnt been used)
OR the flap thar opens to direct the Heat in may be stuck so not allowing air to pass through and over the Matrix of the heat exchanger.

worse case scenario? it DID leak and has been bypassed ( I have done this myself rather than fork out for the new heater matrix and the hassle of fitting one)

They do get full of sludge; disconnect pipes and flush out with a hose.
"Heater not working" ????
Is it not blowing air?
Is air not coming in to vehicle?
Is matrix not getting hot?

Thanks for the replies....

It was working and now not, just blowing cold air. he will check to see if the matrix gets hot.

Check the easy things first;

make sure the heater "tap" opens and closes, seen the cable/wire broken off the taps a few times on older cars.

make sure that there are no air locks in the heater, often happens when coolant level has been allowed to drop, and been topped up with the heater off.

check that the thermostat is closing - engine temp staying cold after driving is a good sign that there are problems and that the coolant cant get up to operating temp.

fuse blown on the fan, if relying on blown air to get the heat out.

After that start worrying about the heater matrix.

As said, check the cable operating the hot water valve actually moves when the dash lever moves, check there's enough water in the system, if both of those are ok then the matrix is probably a bit silty and can easily be removed and flushed through. Also check the thermostat on the engine is ok and the water is actually heating up sufficiently.

hi
the heater on my 300tdi would stop blowing warm air (it never gets hot its a landrover) once the coolant level got low(from an engine prob) after filling i had to blead the top heater pipe.

TDi Landrovers do not have hot water taps, they were last fitted to the Series 3's. Most likely cause is fault with the matirx of some sort, either sludge, or air.

Is it Discovery or 90/110/defender?
