Landrover Def 90, 2.3 Diesel, 1982, what's it worth?

Hi Folks,

Just bought me something in a euh enthousiastic moment:

A Landrover Defender diesel 2.3l, from 1982.
61000km on the clock (for real!!!)
payed 2000 euro's.
No modifications.
Extra is the overdrive.
No real rusty spots or obvious oxidation
He has been well looked after. I know the guy from whom I bought it and I can trust him. He is a mechanic and did evrything himself.

Best thing: my girlfriends parents used to have a def 110 from 1979. They still have the roofrack and tent. Both in perfect state. Off course wonna trow these on top of my def 90. The roof rack will come all the way to the from, but I guess I can let it rest on the front bumper.

So, what is all this worth? What should I look out for? What are modifications that I really should do?

Any info welcome!!!

Hi,

1982? is it surely a defender?
in '82 I guess land rover was still producing SeriesIII.

anyway, if the car is good, the first thing that you sould invest is in a good set of 7.50R16 tires!

cheers,

From the production date and the engine size you give it would appear you have a 88 inch Series III. Built between 1971-85.

The 90 was built between 1983-1989 and then Defender 90 started being produced in 1990.

What modifications you do will depend upon the model you bought. If it is a Series III then perhaps free wheeling hubs and an overdrive would be worth looking into.

Re tyres make sure you buy a set which match what you will be using them for. Ie road, mud and snow, all terrain or sand tyres etc.

Depending upon condition. In the UK an 88 inch Series III is worth between 750 GBP and 3,500 GBP. A Land Rover 90 is worth 1500 GBP and 4000 GBP. The market may differ a little in Belgium though.

Oeps, for sure it is a Serie's III. So far my knowledge about Landrovers.

It already has the overdrive, guess thats good.
For the rest it is spotless.
The rubbers at the bottom of the back windows need to be replaced. There are minor spots of rust on the front doors, but nothing bad. All the rest is in great shape.

Hi,

I have a similar car, a 1976 SeriesIII Diesel!

If you like to improve confort and handling I would recomend fitting parabolic springs.

It´s a great car! see www.AventuraS3.com, the site is in portuguese only, but you can look at the photos!

happy trails with your "new" land rover!
