Iveco 40.10. truck info
 

Hi all,

Im a volunteer with the British Red Cross, we own 3 Iveco 4x4 40.10.1Ws as pictured here http://www.ukemergency.co.uk/ambulance/dscd0580.jpg

A silly question that no-one appears to know the answer to - in the cab we have our 4x4 selector (2N, 4N, F and 4R), behind it is another 2 position lever which is marked "P" - and no-one seems to know what it is or what it does, changing its position does not appear to make any difference whatsoever.

Any clues, and any links or copies of an operators manual for the beast?

it would be the rear diff lock lever

do you have a red switch on the dash to the left of the steering wheel too?

obviously for normal running do not have the diff locked, i'll dig out the driving instructions and scan them for you once i'm at home (currently in a nuffield hospital after a back op - free wifi :-) )

nice looking truck, if they ever want to sell those trucks then advertise them here - i'm sure you'd get better prices than a dealer :-)

many thanks for the reply. If its the dif lock, why is it marked "P", why not "D"? Just wondered :)

Im not 100% sure which position is the "not locked" position on it. There is a large red push button to the left of the steering wheel, another thing that doesnt appear to do anything and no-one knows anything about :) Should there be any indications on the dash?

We have 4 of these vehicles up in Northern Scotland. One is being used for spares for the other 3, one has just been put out of its misery as its gearbox has just gone after being used in the recent bad weather. Our one is still going strong as its the only 4x4 we have in our area and hence we make more use of it than the others do, think thats why ours is still going strong :)

Whats italian for diff lock ? its probabily lost in translation

Out of hospital now, will be back at my place tomorrow so will check then

BEWARE OF BIG RED BUTTON ! its the front diff lock , only use it if you are really stuck, only with wheels ahead (or going is very slippy) and do not steer - otherwise you'll be writing another one off due to front drive shafts

Will post scan tomorrow, glad they are running and help people, so you now have 2 for spares and 2 for running - if you have any front doors going spare :-)

I will print it off and put copies in the cabs now :)

I note it says for the Front Diff "if fitted". Pressing our Red Button does not bring up symbol no. 2, it also feels like there is nothing behind the button, so maybe the button is there but it does nothing (or the bulb is gone :) )

Do your drivers know to lock / unlock the freewheeling hubs on the vehicles too. Do you have the Iveco tool for doing that in each truck ?

Hi Rich,

yes, we know how to operate the front hubs. Only one vehicle has the original tool, the others use a large shifter :) They have only ever been used in 2N and 4N modes, the others appear to have been a mystery (now solved :) )

The Red Button appears to do nothing, so I assume the front wheel diff lock is not fitted on these vehicles (even though the red button is still there). Doing a lamp test shows teh front diff lock indicator does actually work.

Hi the front diff lock will only work when 4wd is engaged ,it will only engage whilst the button is held in as its operated by a eletric motor mounted on the near side chassis rail which then operates a cable pulling the diff lock in once the button is released then so is the diff lock.
If not working you need to check there is power to the relay in the box that houses the electric motor.
Hope that helps the iveco4x4 i had before my current one had everything in place but iveco had forgot to wire the feed in although everything was there (front diff lock is an extra):hammer:

Ill have another look, it may be as you said an optional extra which is not fitted on this one but the button is still there, Ill see if I can locate the motor.

Hi all I want one of those 'big red buttons' ! Wasn't aware of front diff lock on these ivecos, interesting! and anything that's operated by a big red button has to be worth having! Phil.

Hi tool for the hubs! never needed one however sometimes have to role in normal forward in straight line for a few yards and then get out to disengage.

hope you're all having a good christmas. May I as a few silly questions about the Iveco? LoL!

Buggered if I can find a dipstick for the engine oil, where do I check the oil level? Also, as this truck has not had any kind of regular maintenance in several years, what fluids, types and amounts are there I should be looking at /replacing. The poor old beasts only got 37k km on the clock tho it is an H reg.
