LED Interior Light Units

Can anybody recommend a decent LED interior light unit?

I need about 6 in total. Some LEDs Ive seen aren;t very bright, I want something decent and sturdy.

Seen one on ebay, doesnt look too bad, something along these lines:

Have a look in DIY stores etc for special offer LED units - I picked up some real cool small LED clusters from Habitat for 5 quid each and fitted them in the car - very robust with metal casings and had 12 LEDs in each unit.
They are normally 12v anyway but household ones just come with a transformer pack to reduce the voltage down from 240v - just do away with that and wire them straight in.

LED Spotlights

I got mine from this place Charles & Son - Motor caravan parts and accessories, repairs and conversions (including Compass, Elddis, Autohomes, Richard Holdsworth and Swift). £18 each bright enough to read buy, small and strong. they have no pictures on their site so I have attached one. very small but you should be able to make out four spots over the bed area. they are fully adjustable although they are pointing straight ahead in the photo.

No - they have a transformer to get to 12 volts. (or at least some do)

One thing to beware of is that house stuff may not be voltage regulated so if batteries are charging then the voltage can be higher and blow the leds whereas automotive and boat kit is normally regulated

My vehicle had halogen fittings for all the lights which ate power so i got led bulbs for them and converted them over. All my lighting switched on now uses less than the power of 1 halogen

Lightbulb

I got my LED lights from china - all SMD leds on 12 and 24 volts.

Very important for LED lights on 12 volt batteries is a stable DC voltage. With battery chargers, voltage can vary significantly (upto 14 volt) causing heat stress in the LED's reducing operating life.

For the 12 volt LED's I connected a 7812 voltage regulator to reduce battery charger voltage peaks. The 24 volt versions all have the voltage regulator inside the housing.

Cheers!
Arno

Hi,

I have a number of strip lights bought from ultraled. They are bright and being waterproof are quite robust. I have also fitted them into the roof tent, with a waterproof switch I made.

Hi Dave,

Most of the truck body building suppliers in the UK sell internal LED units. CBF and Stedall both seem to sell a number of units and both have provided a good service to me in the past.

Check the Hongkong company dealextreme.com
They do great deals on LED's , and ship for free.
Got 3 LED lightstrips from them with 30 LED's each.
They work a treat as outside car lights while camping, stuck them underneath the rooftent.
They're totally waterproof.
