increasing the weight limit Iveco 40-10

I have read somewhere (maybe here) that it is possible to up the weight limit of 40-10 Iveco Dailys, thought it was just a paper exercise, as they are underrated as standard. can anyone shed any light?

I know this company can do that for you if the chassis allows, so you could ask them?

Some people reckon they charge a lot for what may boil down to a new sticker next to your weight plate saying the higher limit if thats all your chassis needs, but they also do springs etc if needed to uprate the chassis. They may also just say no, you're at that chassis' limit already.

Thanks for that. I called SV Tech and they want £240 + Vat to uprate to 4450kg sounds a lot just for a paper exercise then you take the paper to the DVLA and they alter the log book (V5) at least it can be done with no alteration to vehicle so that is good news. they dont do springs but recommended someone who I have yet to call.

Hi Gray
talking of weight what does yours weigh in at mines about 4.3 ton fully loaded. What do you springs look like Il post pics of mine, thinking air assist would be helpfull as mine look a little suspect!
all the best Mark

Hi Mark,

Mine weighed 3800kg but not fully loaded, I am guessing I would be close to the limit with all my stuff so that is why I want to up rate. my springs are sad too. When in India I had springs hammered back into shape India style ( they hammer them) it worked fine and lasted. I would get an extra leaf put in while you are there, it will be cheap, if you cant find the right size a blacksmith will cut one down for you.

Hi Gray
read so,e where that it makes them brittle and they snap! Got any idea how you decide where to add and what size! Was think of an air bag system to assist but nobody has got back to me yet and not sure how it would fit

Kev (moodybloo) has got the sv tech certificate for his 40-10w (i've seen it stuck to the bulkhead of his truck so its not a rumour !)

Mark on the iveco 4x4 list is trying to get this done for his coachbuilt demountable camper at present

You'll need to provide a whole bunch of specs including tyres etc (for load ratings - eg . xzl are rated at 1250 kg per axle which they may see as boarderline for a 4450kg truck !, xy's are higher rated i believe.). You can download the form from the svtech site. I'm looking at doing the same at somepoint on my 40-10w

Mark - could you do me a favour while you are knocking about, i'm interested in availability of 9.5 tyres for 17.5 inch rims as i'm looking at fitting bremach rims to my iveco so any info on your travels as to worldwide availability of that size would be usefull)

Hi Rich
in relation to tyres my xzl's are fine as long as you keep speeds low or they get hot and the tubes pop, great on the rough or big unexpected impacts. when I get home its xy's for me for the higher speeds and tarmac . Im currently looking for air assisters to support my springs, firestone! Will try and post pics of springs and etc soon best regards from
