I'm looking to buy a truck in S.Africa

I'm going to Cape town in september and want to buy a used truck on arrival. I'm aiming for egypt, but I'll be pretty damn happy if it gets me to Kenya.

anyone got a used truck for sale or know the best way to go about it?

I don't have access to a computer, so my time surfing the net is limited. Any helpfull search tips or web sight info is greatly appreciated in advance.

thanks,
mike

Do you mean 'truck' as in lorry, or 'truck' as in 4wd Toyota/Land Rover etc.?

yah i mean 4x4 or 4x2.

my budget is around $4,000 U.S.
not looking for anything fancy just something that goes. would i be able to get a landrover or cruiser ready to go at that price?

what other pick up trucks would be cheaper / reliable w/ readily available parts.

Thanks for setting me straight. Sorry for the confusion, I'm Canadian. I guess I've got to get my terminology insync with all the Europeans http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

I did some research a year or so ago for a 4wd in SA. I actually found one easily online. Just do a search for the online second-hand car sites out there, and you'll see what there is.

My general advice though would be to spend your money on a good platform - ie the car, and don't buy a stuffed car just because it has all the 'expedition' extras.

Hi - I'm moving to South Africa from the UK at the end of the year and I've been looking into vehicle prices quite closely.

It seems that used 4x4s tend to be quite a bit more expensive in SA than they are in the UK. If you want an 80 series Land Cruiser, for instance, you're realling looking at R150,000 upwards - even for an early one with big miles.

There are a few SA used car sites (e.g. autotrader.co.za) - have a look on them - you might conclude that shipping a car out for your trip is more cost effective.

Cheers,

Andy
