GPS supplier in France/Spain - Urgent

Hi,

I'm in Northern France on my way down to Morocco and my USB GPS has packed up.

Can any one here recommend a supplier en route that may stock one? I need a USB powered GPS receiver/antennae to plug into my PC.

My web access is limited, so if you can recommend a supplier, please text me details to +44 (0)7971 540 362.

I have tried a couple of shops like PC City (French arm of PC World), but they have never heard of them. I thought they were very common so never coconsidered bringing a spare, but will next time.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Julian, if you have no luck with a PC type receiver you could try the larger Decathalon sports stores (everywhere) for an Etrex or similar unit with USB connectability.
Good luck.

Is this what you're looking for? You will struggle to get something like this in Spain, but we're going to have a hunt around for you tomorrow.

A couple of things - Spain will shut down on Thurs/Fri for Semana Santa and nowhere will be open.

I live 40km north of Malaga if you need a shipping address - you will probably be coming down the N331 which is 10 mins from me so I can meet you at Casabermeja.

My husband is in Gibraltar until Thursday - if he can find you one, we'll give you a call.

PC City in Malaga say they have one...

Hi Julian

Have just called and left a message on your phone.

PC City in Malaga PCCITY tu tienda de informática, ordenadores, portátiles, cámaras, impresoras, mp3, pda say they have one and it's 99 euros. I don't have any info other than that (make/model etc). Spain is not very technologically advanced and this being quite a specialist piece of equipment, I'm not 100% sure they have exactly what you're looking for. I have been into the shop previously and they do sell Tom-Toms and other GPS related equipment.

Their phone number is 902 100 302 if you want to give them a call. There is a person there who speaks English although he is not easy to get hold of (he's only there in the mornings). The shop is easy to find - follow the signs for the airport. It is on the industrial estate (on the right-hand side of the road) right at the side of the N-340 - a very large purple building. If you pass Makro, you've gone too far - turn off for the airport and double back on yourself at the roundabout.

The guy we've just spoken to says they are open Thursday (4 April), but almost everywhere else will be closed. It's worth checking. (Estais atos el Jueves - are you open on Thursday). Closed all day Friday, open Saturday. Any problems, ring me, I've left my number on your message service.

Good luck, Alison.

Hi Alison,

Yes that is exactly the sort of thing I am looking for. Thanks also for your message, we are staying near Oloron-sainte-marie t the moment with poor mobile reception, but may try to call you later when we head off south.

I will try PC City - I went to one in France and all they had was a seperate GPS receiver for the TomToms, but it wasn't USB.

I have actually possibly pinned down the problem (dodgy connection) so will spend the next hour or so trying to get it working.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Just to follow up my call for help - managed to pin the problem down to a faulty connection in the receiver so stripped off the plug and socket and soldered the connection when I had some spare time in Meknes and the GPS worked fine from then on.

Thanks again for the offers of help.
