Do a weblookup on Dormobile. They still do an interior and I assume a lifting roof with bunks. Terri Anne Wakeman's website also has some good pics of the interior of her vehicle.

Carawagon also did a conversion for the Landrover.

There are some good ideas in the layouts - some crap ones as well. But they seemed to fit a fair bit in the space - 4 cupboards, 2 burner spirit cooker, sink, small ice box, table and bench seats, even a toilet!!

I'd also take a look at Westfalia conversions of the VW Kombis as they managed to fit a lot into a similar amount of space - including a gas fridge.

If you want the fitout to look good after going offroad - avoid square cupboard cutouts and doors - rounded doors never look out of alignment and they are substantially stronger than square joints. Have look at a lot of quality yacht fitouts as well - plenty of ideas from those guys.

Putting rockwool insulation in the walls and ceiling will help keep things hot/cold.

Show us yer drawers...

Hello,

thought I'd resurect this thread as I've just finished building some plywood drawers for the back of the troopy. Not quite done yet, but leaving them naked for a couple of weeks testing before I glue down some auto carpet for the finishing touches. Right hand side has ventilation for my shiny new fridge.

It's my first attempt at building anything like this, so I'm chuffed they turned out good and saved a fortune compared to the bought ones.

Having almost as much fun getting the truck ready as travelling

I didn't have to sleep in the back of my vehicle, but since each layer is separate, they can be individually removed if needed.

A folding board can be used on top to give you that sleeping platform you'd want.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
