Gas question?
 

Okay, technically it is not a 4x4 question, but my gas bottle is fixed to the car so not quite OT! I have a small gas bottle (about 9kgs or so) which has a burner that screws directly into the bottle - i.e. a high pressure burner. Obviously such a system does not use a regulator. Now my problem is that I have a very nice twin burner (low pressure, regulated type). Now bearing in mind I cannot find a regulator that screws in, does anyone have any idea how I could get such a system to work? Ideas would be very welcome! I could probably get a local Gas company to change the screw in type to a neck suitable for a Ghana type regulator... But on the other hand that might be a serious mission and end up taking about 6 months :-) Of course I also don't want to do anything stupid myself that could result in an unsafe arrangement.

You should be able to go from the thread on your bottle to the thread on a regulator. maybe you will have to step up or down with maybe more than one coupler, or maybe some pipe between, but should be possible. use gas ptfe tape on the joints or old fashioned hemp and sealer, or whatever the locals use and it will be fine

Correct me if I am wrong, but reading your reply I understand that I could take a hose (maybe some cut down gas welding hose and jubilee clips) from the high pressure fitting (i.e. the modified burner that has the jet and "mantle" part removed and is simply now a small controllable valve) to a regulator, and from there to the low pressure stove... ?
Sorry, but gas fittings I really have no clue!!!

you can do just that as long as your connections are good then no problem. check for leaks with soapy water. (if you have a leak it will probably ice up where the leak is). it is difficult to advise over the net so proceed with caution, maybe send me a photo. the old fitting will become an on off valve and the regulator will regulate!

Many thanks Graeme for all your input. Funnily enough a mate of mine who I sold my defender to has just returned from touring Mali and is off to Germany tomorrow. He strangely found a mini-bottle with regulator fitting which he has left me so problem solved. But thanks again,
