Equipment & Spares: any advice?

Hi,

Can anybody add to this list of essential Equipment and Spares for my vehicle / route. Space and ££ both really tight.

Route is (roughly):
UK, FR, SWZ, ITA, SLV, CRO, B&H, FYROM, ALB, GRE, TURK, RUS, MONG, KAZ, UZB, TAJK, TURK, IRA, MOROC & WSH

Vehicle is:
Toyota Hiace 4WD Camper, 2.8 diesel.

The van is 4wd but clearance is not so high, so I don't intend to be doing any driving on soft sand or wet mud. I'm not very experienced with mechanics, and have only done one overland trip before (5 months round Ozz in a 2wd 'street ute'). I expect the roughest driving I will do is in Mongolia, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.

So far my lists have:

SPARES:
- 5 All terrain tyres (I've heard allot good about the XZY's, but got to check the wheels on the van now to see if they will fit)
- Spare headlight bulbs
- Spare fuses
- 1 each spare fuel, oil and air filters
- Bottle of oil

EQUIP:
- Tyre sealant spray stuff
- GB Sticker
- Fluorescent Triangle
- Head light anti dazzle stickers
- Spare fuel can
- Funnel
- Can of WD40
- Gaffer tape
- Uhu Glue
- Tow rope

Should I consider taking:
- Air compressor
- Something else?

Cheers.

Toby.

Air compressor - yes.

Also - spare drive belts.

Thats a lot of mileage for just one set of filters.

what is your total mileage and service intervals? I would imagine those roads to be dusty so a 2nd air filter may be needed. I would also take a 2nd fuel filter incase you come across some bad fuel en-route and need to change it.

also dont forget zip/cable ties :thumbup1:

Toby.

Have a look at the page for spares etc on our website. There is a comprehensive list of everything we carried with us. Might give you some more ideas - you obviously don't need all these things...

Hmmm... Ok I a rough guess at total mileage will be about 30k miles.
I think we will service about every 10,000 miles. So maybe 3 sets of filters.

To Add:
An air compressor
a few Spark & Glow plugs
Spare belt
Grip Ties
Some Tools!

Pumbaa - that is an amazing list thanks, defiantly some food for thought, but to be honest, I don't know what half that stuff is! Or what I would do with it!

Maybe I should add a mechanics course to my list!

I wouldn't bother with the spark plugs for the diesel

Inner tube (are you running tubeless)
Cooling system pipework
hose clips
Electrical wire
