Dodgy Renault
 

I have been offered a Renault Dodge 50 RB75, a 4x4 van about the right size for a long trip, anybody have any experience of these? The only problem that I can see is permanent 4 wheel drive and 17 mpg.

I know for certain that a modification was done on some but not all of the MOD units, if it hasn't had the mod done it will handle like a pig and blow CV joints all the time as the steering geometry was way out on the early ones.
Bit under powered, and you can only get half the bits from Brourton.

You pays your money, you takes your choice.

There's not much this size on the market though.
 

Hi, there are a few happy owners of these rare B75s on the web, I seem to think the HUBB had a contributor with one for a while.
IMHO compared to the military work for which they were designed, you won't work it as hard as that.

With warnings like Rob's you know which extra spares to take along when you set off. I don't know who makes the axles/transfer case so can't comment on parts availability. At least the Renault engine & gearbox are well supported.
Volvo trucks now owns Renault trucks (they bought it for the engines) so the distributor network is effectively doubled.
Remember it's a mini HGV so expect to pay HGV prices for parts & service.

I am still trying to decide which vehicle to buy and an RB44/S75 is an option, however I gather the permanent 4x4 gets through transfer boxes if you cover a lot of road miles. Leaf springs offer a rough ride also. He suggested modifying a twin axle, 2 wheel drive model to include the ground clearance of the 4x4, and fit the front bumper and winch. With the right tyres it would be a good combination of on/off road ability, though perhaps not for serious adventuring.
