Discovery brake problems
I use a 1998 Disco TDi 300 (one of the very last before the TD5).
My ABS brakes first failed coming down the Rif mountains in Morocco – the ABS light on the dashboard came on to tell me all was not well.
A year later I have been to distributors in France and UK, travelled the Himalayas in Tibet and frightened myself silly in Hampshire.
Symptoms – on start-up the ABS light will be OFF. At the first junction the brake pedal may, or may not… give a strong back-pressure and refuse to apply.
Strongly maintained pressure will engage brakes after around 3 metres (by which time the damage is done).
The ABS light will then come ON and the brakes will behave perfectly for the rest of the journey.
QUESTION –
1) does anyone have similar problems with Discovery braking?
2) can anyone suggest immediate remedial action before serious damage occurs?
Thanks for all information

You might get some more info on it on the LRE forum.
