Discovery 2.5 TDI
Hi ;

Discovery 2.5TDI ... 98 model ... 97500 km...

Can users of this car tell me the pros&cons of this car? ... Is it a good buy or not... Will it cause trouble after this km.s? ...etc etc etc ...

Some love them, Some hate them.
I have a 200tdi, the early one, '93, it has 212,000 miles (330,000km) on the clock. The 300's, from '94 on, had a cambelt problem, most of them would have had the "fix" by now though. Look for a Full Service History, the engine only revs to about 4k so if looked after they go on for ever. The EGR is regularly blanked off, don't have them on the 200 so not sure about why.
Back to mine, I have been to Tunisia from Uk 3 times. I bought it with 141,000 on the clock, have had it looked after, and it is still going well. It was on 184,000 when we went to Tunisia in 2005/6, did 4000 miles without any problems.

In my experience it all depends upon which day they were built. If you get a good one as Kevin above did they are good, but be warned, if you get a bad one they can be bad, very bad.
Known faults with 300 TDI includes cambelts/tensioners, head gaskets and gearbox box problems galore (Ashcrofts have made a very successful business from them). Diff problems often occur, oil leaks from engine/box and a leaking steering box is the norm.
I often used to worry if I opened an electric window if it would come back up.
Only buy with good service history and check bulkhead, boot floor very carefully as they tend to rust from new.
I have owned Land Rovers, Range Rovers and a Discovery and worked in the motor trade for a number of years. Never had the same problems though with Japanese 4x4 vehicles but they do not have the Land Rover badge on the front which we all like. The norm with L/R for many years has been poor build quality and very outdated designs.
A 98 model with 97500km should be OK as long as the cambelt has been changed, service history and any mods completed.
