Budapest - Bamako 2010 - Turbo or not?

Hi, are there someone on this forum doing the rally Budapest Bamako in 2010?

We are entering the rally for the first time, racing category, and will participate with a hj 60 Landcruiser.

We have done quite a bit to the car, and the big question, should we put on a turbo or not? Anybody, feel free to comment.

The HJ60 are very slow... With a turbo it will be a lot faster and more fun to drive. But the downsides are heat and more stuff stuff that can break. The 2H engine doesn't have oil cooled pistons like the 12h-t (with turbo original) but from what I've heard the 2H will coop with it good anyway.

If you could get your hands on a 12h-t engine that would be the best option. And its direct injected witch means better fuelconsumption.:thumbup1:

I will not join the rally but drive through the same countries a few weeks earlier and continue to Ghana and Benin.

I don't think raw power is very important. You won't score many more points, or have more fun, if your vehicle is a few % more powerful. The trabi teams seemed to have most fun in the 2009 rally, and they had less power than a washing machine.

I think planning & equipment & preparation are more important.

Good luck :-)
