Advice for vehicle door locks pleeez
 

Has anyone out there got any suggestions for additional extral locks for all the doors on a 110 station wagon?

I was about to simply rivet standard hasp/staple type (shed door type locks), through to a large spreader plate inside the door, but to be honest it's going to look awful from the outside.

Then someone suggested window locks, but these are all really small & flimsy.

Anyone come across a company anwhere that makes anything sturdy, or any other suggestions.

Also, the 110s got a Tracker system on it, but thats probably useless outside the UK. Are there any similar global type systems?

I've just bought a couple of the caravan locks from apb for the front doors of my 110 Hardtop - I haven't fittted yet but they are well meaty . . .

Footloose 4x4 (Sacrewell Farm Nr Peterborough) stock a neat and rugged lock which will take a padlock for your rear door on the 110.

Thanks for the pointers chaps, am following up both leads at the mo.

Think i'll proably go for the caravan lock on the rear & 2nd row doors, and do some serious head scratching for the front doors!

I was just going to rivet a shackle-and-padlock on the outside - but, after spending a fortune on the apb caravan type locks for the cab doors might as well go the whole hog . . .

One point when putting new locks on your vehicle, its worth thinking through all your vehicle's security requirements in advance so you can minimise the number of keys you end up with and avoid walking round with a pocket full of assorted metal shapes. I certainly recommend buying multiple padlocks with the same key.

re: the Safeway locks - are they relatively easy to fit to a Defender?

That shouldn't be problem as Defender has lots of flat surfaces on the doors and the locks are fairly adjustable.

P.S.I'll be at Scorpion also this Saturday - the shocks/springs still need changing.

You can also buy the same lock at B&Q for about half the price.

I ended up returning the caravan style locks (got most of my money back) and bought three D150s from Safeways. Have fitted the two front doors - relatively easy though a bit neve racking taking the hole saw to the landy! The first one took a few hours due to working it out and re-measuring but the second was in in half and hour. Luckily I had the right size hole saw. They do the business and I'm not even bothering to lock the next-to-useless original locks anymore.
The rear door will not be so tidy - the lock will have to go in the door though the barrell is really too deep - I can post again after I've done it if it'd be of any use to anyone.

I found a picture of the Yale D150, whilst this would stop someone opening your worn Landie locks with a wrong key or screwdriver, it could be drilled out in a matter of seconds, so my preference to give a similar level of security would be replacement lock barrels and avoid the drilling of the doors:

I also found this 'Van-lock' at screwfix which could be good for back doors, but would stick put a bit too far fo use on side doors:

Here is a range of keyed-alike padlocks from Screwfix (The weatherproof blue/black padlocks have a cover on the keyhole which will keep the sand out)
