ummm found this site looking for info about an Africa Twin that were going to do some euro rides with but I may be able to help with a few points on this thread as I was actually trained as engineer on the the V8, 200Tdi and 300Tdi by Landrover before moving in journalskisum.

The noise you hear is one of a few things but normally caused by one particular fault, the front end on all serpentine engine relies on the pulley's being 100% in line, the 300 though had a few builds were the tensioner is acually made out of line this causes the belt to wear offset, causing the tensioner to bend further out of line. normally the penny tweak corrects this, or you can laser line all the pulleys and fit shims...

Fractured fuel pipes are rare, normally the cause is down to them being fitted wrong and becoming stressed and twisted, certainly carry a spare set but doubt you will ever need them.

As for the clutch, no question get it checked, removing a transferbox and gearbox by the side of the road is near impossible, plus the clutch fork has always had problems with the pivot wearing through with long term use or from people driving with their foot rested on the clutch pedal! chances of finding a replacement arm local abbroad is slim at best. Lastly some LT77 gearboxes have a pressure compensator before the clutch slave these are trouble and if you do have it fitted it may be worth re-plumbing the clutch pipework to remove it!

110 and 130 is the same in all respects, as the only difference is the 2' of plate welded in the chassis, avoid haynes manuals and buy the factory manual from ebay as the Haynes manuals are full of errors in the specs.

Jenna.

Thanks

OK. Got the picture now. Thanks very much. I'll spend Saturday replacing the tensioner bearing and / or adding a penny and while I'm at it I'll clean and lubricate and see where all that gets me.

It does sound like a pretty common problem though.

thanks,

Simon

Update

I've had loads of advice here. I removed the driove belt to discover thta the bearing in the tensioner itslef was badly worn. Fitted a new one and checked all the others - all were ok.... very slight wear on the waterpump which I'll need to do later but not urgent I don't think.

Anyway, have now done another 500 miles and no squeaks or squeals at all. So that problem is solved.

thanks for your help,

Simon
