12volt Battery Chargers

Hi,

I'm looking for a battery charger to charge AA, AAA, etc batteries, but one that will run off a 12 volt vehicle supply.

I've tried googling a few options but keep on coming up with the standard chargers for car batteries.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Hi Julian,

Try this link:
DÄRR - Trefferliste - Strom

it is in German .... very reliable webshop.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Tom, they seem to have a few to choose from which is handy.

I bought one off Ebay that runs both of mains and 12V, works fine, cheap.

Don't remember the seller, but a search should show you quite a few.

Julian,

Robert Dyas had a 12v charger and four NiMH AA batteries for about twenty quid when I went in the other day. I didn't see if there was anything similar for the AAA size. I can't remember the brand, it might have been Energiser.

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers,
Toby

There are heaps of them around now. I've got one from Conrad Elektronik Conrad.de. Uses a standard mains cable and a small 12V cable. Brand name is Voltcraft.

Whichever one you buy, make sure it's processor controlled and allows you to charge any number and combination of batteries, or you risk not fully charging some of them.

Maplins do the Uniross X-Press 700 for £15 to £20 with four 2700mAh AA batteries. It will also charge AAA batteries, and comes with a mains and 12v adaptor.

squillions of them

Julian

There are squillions of them around. All the above suggestions plus try an y camera shop in your area. I'm staring at one as I write - bought by my other half for her digital camera, plugs into mains 230v 50hz -this unplugs and there is a cigarette adapter. Could always be rewired for DIN plugs. Works a treat and will charge 2 or 4 AA or AAA. Came in very handy on our trip. Sadly I still had to take a good supply of batteries for my film cameras as they are hard to get in africa.
