Van for sale in Chile
A word of advice for those crossing through to Peru from Chile with a self owned car, the authorities are often very difficult, and although they say a foreigner can not drive a Chilean car (even if you own it) into Peru they will let you be driven by a Chilean 'chauffer'. This is the loophole we used to get into Peru. We hired a guy for 100 soles, and he caught a bus back once we were across the border. Ecuador was no problem at all. If anyone's interested we have a fully kitted out Ford Aerostar Van, 1993 in great condition, we bought it in Santiago Chile and are going to be trying to sell it as of now, heading back to Arica or Iquique. Not only is the van a great way to travel around S.america if you like freedom of choice, but we also have all sorts of camping gear to throw into the package including portable stoves and blow up matresses. We drove the car through Chile, Peru and Ecuador, and the freedom it gave us was incredible. see FOUR DROPS OF THIS - Adventures with Pants. for some of the adventure.
