FOR SALE: VW Transporter (T4) in Peru / Ecuador June - August 2014

After having traveled almost 7 month, we (German Couple) are about to finishing our trip through South America and are looking to sell our beloved and well maintained "Wall-e" Volkswagen EuroVan (Transporter Version 4). We call him Wall-e after the Disney Movie, because he looks a bit beat with a few dents and blunt paint but is a reliable and strong companion.

Built 1992
Registered in Canada (Canadian plates = Title easy to transfer).
This car only seats two people and does not come with a bench or seat in the back!
Current kilometer reading: ~ 285.000 KM (in Lima)
Machine: 2.5 liters, five cylinder (very durable and strong even at 4.800 Meter altitude and temperatures below freezing) running on gas (Benzin, Nafta, Fuel) and is manual shift. The consumption is between 9 (highway) and 11 (mountains and off road) litres per 100 km.
With 16" Rims and high tires, you have a good clearance allowing access to almost all areas in South America. For 99% of South America, you do not really need 4x4 if you ask any forum member to answer honestly.

We took good care of the car and invested in extra maintenance (next to the regular oil change etc.) and got new parts to improve safety and reliability after we took over the car from our former owners.

Investments / Maintenance Work (excluding cost for mechanics)

- New "Bosch" battery (65Amp) ~ USD 120
- New rear shock absorbers ~ USD 100
- New "Bosch" fuel pump ~ USD 130
- New ball joints (upper and lower) ~ USD 120
- New Silencer / End-Can ~ USD 70
- New spark plug cables and distributor cap ~ USD 70
- New brake pads (including fluid change) ~ USD 110

- New starter drive (aka Bendix), solenoid and bushing (including overhaul of Starter itself) ~ USD 70
- New gas springs for the back door ~ USD 50
- New heating valve and switch ~ USD 20
- New expansion tank for cooling liquid ~ USD 30
- New valve cover casket ~ USD 20
- New air filter ~ USD 20
- New mirror right hand side ~ USD 75
- New car jack (hydraulic) ~ USD 45
- New spring mattress 140 x 190 cm (May 2014) ~ USD 200

Further work:

- Alternator cleaned and coals extended
- Steering reviewed and adjusted
- Tires rotated

Further spare parts for future changes:

- New front shock absorbers ~ USD 160

- Wheel bearings ~ USD 60

- V-Ribbed Belt ~ USD 10

Further parts have been installed /changed before we bought the car and are worthy to be mentioned

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
