Toyota HJ75 1988 Troop Carrier Pop Top for sale in Europe.

Unfortunately, I think it will be time for us to sell our beloved Troopie.

We bought it in Australia in 2005 and we have covered about 60000 km since then, first across Australia and then across Africa.

It always been as reliable as a Swiss watch.

I would not hesitate to drive it back to Cape Town tomorrow morning.
It took us through the deserts, mountains and city slums without letting us down once.

As you imagine, I know this truck inside/out. I have been maintaining it as needed.

Here's a detailed description:

-1988 HJ75 with original 2H engine.
-Right Hand Drive
-Poptop conversion made by Trekka in Australia when new.
-295000 km.
-Rear Kaymar heavy duty bumper with 2 tire carriers (tires are new).
-ARB front bumper with space for winch - but I never needed one.
-Upgraded seats - much more comfy.
-Factory snorkel.
-2 factory fuel tanks (150 liters total)
-2 aluminium water tanks underneath with rear faucet and electrical 12V pump.
-stove in the rear door, propane tank stored inside
-kitchen cabinet with storage
-fridge
-dual batteries
-rear bench seat that convert into a bed or can carry 4 passengers and offer plenty of storage.
-upper bed strong and big enough for 2.
-No rust whatsoever - always been in dry climate.
-Transfer case and driveshaft have been rebuild in South Africa prior to the trip.
-Radiator had been replaced 2 years ago.
-Brakes are perfect.
-All the electrical accessories work as they should - it's a Toyota.
-Absolutely no leaks. Dry as the Sudanese desert.
-Newer suspension bushings and shocks.
-Australian registration which I can easily transfer to you.
-Does not burn/consume any oil/water, knock, ping or anything like that. The engine is a strong as new. As I said it's a Toyota...

This is one of the most versatile and reliable expedition vehicle you could find.

You can set up your bed in 1 minute.
You can carry up to 7 passengers and have space to sleep for 3/4.
Nothing needs to be carried on the roof so you have a low center of gravity and good fuel economy.

It always start when you want it to.
It never stops unless you want it to.

This is the most common and trusted 4x4 in Africa, so if you do ever need something, you can buy parts for it at the local convenience store and anyone on the street can fix it for you.

However being 21 years old and having completed a trip across Africa, a few things could be looked at - mostly cosmetic.

-A/C does not blow very cold. Everything has been replaced and it is in working order but I think it needs more freon.
-By the time I got to Europe, the tires will need to be replaced. I bought 4 new BFG A/T in Cape Town but after 35000 km of bad roads, they will have finished their life.
-The original paint bears a few scratches and small dents but no rust.
It adds character.
-Could use a new canvas for the pop-top.
-Could use new side mirrors.
-Tinting for the rear windows need to be replaced.
-Needs a new auxiliary battery.

I can help to address these issues based on time and final price.

I can also include a few accessories as a package deal:

-fridge
-hi-lift
-propane tank
-etc

Asking price is 6000 Euro or best offer.

If you are interested email me and we'll take if from there.
In any case I will mostly cry when I sell it so be prepared for that...

I am currently in Egypt and will be in London in about a month.
I can deliver anywhere in between.

If you are looking for a truck to drive across Africa and are on a limited budget, here's your chance!

hi Christian

I was in Nairobi concours of elegance the same day you went but unfortunately I have not seen you!
I'd be interested in your Troopie but I need some more information about it:
has your car got the power steering?
in wich country is registered it?
do you have a carnet de passage en douane for your car?
Are you interested of selling your car in Africa?
I didn't really understand if 12000 USD is the price of selling the car.
Let me know better, please.
Many thanks.
Renato

Hello!

Nice car! just what we want for our trip! Could you pleas send me some photos of the interior?
Is it possible to keep the ozzy rego in the future? If yes, does this complicate our travelling?
The reason I ask is that I'm from Norway and would have to pay between 5 and 10 thousand euro to get N plates! And that is a lot of travelling!

Cheers Tom

Hi again,

my idea was to buy the car for having in Kenya, where I frequently use to come for work (and where I’m at this moment), and use the carnet until the registration procedure will end up. But I don’t know if I am allowed to do this. For how long could I be allowed to keep the original registration number? I could have some further informations here about this in next fews days but I’m afraid it will be late as you are leaving Aegypt soon.

Since I’ve read you are going back to London through Italy, another solution would be to meet each other in Italy, where I’ve planned to be for middle December. When did you plan to be there?.

I had also thought to flight to Cairo to check and test your car, but again it might be too late to do this. By the way, how long it will take to drive back to Kenya?

Well, I don’t really know if you have completely understood the whole story, but if you have any good idea in how we could manage this deal let me know. Your Troopie is interesting to me and I believe to be a serious buyer.

Cheers.
Renato

All,

here are some pictures of the interior - sorry for the poor quality. It looks much better in reality.

It is a basic but very functional design.
One bed upstairs sleeps 2 (will need new mattress) and one sofa/coach can seats 5 or sleep 1 or 2.
It also has a huge storage area underneath.

The fridge is behind the driver seat and there is a huge cabinet for storage and has a slide-out table.

The front seats are after-market - much more comfy.

There is a stove in the back door (high pressure) and a water faucet in the back.

email me for more details. Price is negociable.

I am currently in Istambul and will be in London on the 28th going through Roma/Geneva. I will need to take a quick decision soon about whether selling it or storing it and using later for South America...

Christian

yep that might work....I am not sure if it's the economy, the price, the registration or what but I would have thought that this truck would be easier to sell. It is such a perfect truck for Africa!

At this point, I am indeed now considering to ship it to South America for the next leg...
